Repair Economy

Are you looking to make a difference in your community? A repair project might be just what you need…

Back in 2017, Karen set up her first repair café with the aim of saving textiles and small electricals from going to waste and reducing carbon outputs.

It soon became clear that the Repair Café was about much more that saving carbon. Through repair cafes and events we:

  • Pass on skills
  • Build confidence
  • Support people’s mental health
  • Build resilient and sustainable communities
  • Reduce waste and give sentimental items a new lease of life
  • Save money

Simply Repair also now hold a monthly sewing club and regular skills workshops, and Karen has helped several more communities to set up their own repair cafes in Cumbria and beyond.

Repair cafes and events work well in a variety of settings including:

  • Community groups
  • Churches
  • Schools and colleges
  • Workplaces

If you would like to set up a repair café or repair event in your community, then please get in touch to book a free exploratory call.

‘Thank you for all the help and support we received in setting up our repair cafe. The presentation Karen gave was a great way to launch the project, raising awareness about repair and helping us to recruit our first volunteers. Contacts provided for access to grant funding and other repair cafes was invaluable and seeing how Kendal Repair Cafe is organised, plus sharing Simply Repair paperwork, made the process of setting up so much smoother’
