Helping Schools and Colleges

Create a Kinder, Greener, Fairer Future

The Department for Education now requires every school and college to develop a Climate Action Plan.

But a plan on paper is only the beginning. We take it much further. Here’s how:

Carbon Action Plans

Practical, Positive and Pupil-Led

We’ll work alongside you to develop clear, achievable Climate and Carbon Action Plans that fit your context, curriculum and community.

But more importantly, we help you unlock:

  • Positivity – so that children and staff feel hopeful and optimistic about the future
  • Agency – recognising your power to make a real difference
  • Connection – strengthening relationships with each other, with nature, and with the wider world.

Our approach places pupils at the heart of this journey.

‘Matt delivered a great, practical session in school. Our children love being outdoors and looking after the planet but felt empowered to contribute even more to our school’s sustainability journey as a result of his visit.’

Headteacher, Selside Primary School

Beyond the Carbon Plan

A Climate Action Plan is important. But it’s only one part of creating a truly sustainable school. We’ll support you to go beyond compliance and build a whole-school culture of care for people and planet.

We’ll help you develop initiatives that build empathy and responsibility through a range of practical, hands-on projects that engage children directly with nature and sustainability.

Engaging Children Through Nature and Repair

Ex-Geography Teacher and Future Fixers’ Director Karen Bentley-Brown, brings creativity and practical action to our work in schools and colleges.

Through hands-on workshops and activities, she supports pupils with:

  • nature connection and outdoor learning
  • nature sketching
  • repair and reuse projects

These experiences help children develop confidence, curiosity and care, turning sustainability from an abstract idea into something joyful and meaningful.

Sustainable Teams

Great schools and colleges are built on great teams.

Our Sustainable Teams programme supports staff groups to work together with more clarity, trust and shared purpose. It helps teams communicate better, think better and make decisions in ways that are calmer, kinder and more effective.

Sessions can run as a half day, full day, or as a longer programme, depending on the needs of your school or college.

Using insights from Functional Fluency and the Thinking Environment, we help teams to develop:

  • a shared, non-blaming language for behaviour under pressure
  • practical ways to improve listening, challenge and decision-making
  • habits that strengthen relationships and reduce stress
  • greater confidence, cooperation and collective problem-solving

The result is a more connected, resilient culture where people feel heard, valued and able to do their best work, so staff and students can truly thrive.

Personal Sustainability for Headteachers

Sustainable schools need sustainable leaders. Headteachers and senior leaders carry huge responsibility, and the pressure to deliver improvement, manage budgets, support staff and respond to constant change can be overwhelming.

Our Personal Sustainability for Headteachers programme supports school leaders to:

  • stay grounded and resilient under pressure
  • make clearer, calmer decisions
  • communicate more effectively with staff and communities
  • build cultures of trust, collaboration and wellbeing
  • lead sustainability with energy.

We help school leaders to care for themselves so that they can effectively care for their schools.

‘Taking on my first headship brought significant professional and personal challenges and working with David has been invaluable. He helped me navigate the demands of the role with clarity and confidence, while also protecting my wellbeing and family time.

David’s deep understanding of behaviour and its impact created a safe, reflective space where I could develop a leadership style that brings out the best in both myself, and my team. I continue to work with him to ensure my leadership remains positive and sustainable.’
